One Year On | Barcelona Still On My Mind |Reflection

by

People often ask me why I love Barcelona so much…

At first, it reminded me of good old Sydney (city by the sea), but we all know how I feel about that city so perhaps that isn’t the reason why I brag about Barcelona so much. My first steps on La Ramblas close to my aparatment were filled with so much excitement and energy, I forgot I was going through depression. Barcelona quickly became my medicine.

It was also the first city where I decided to cave into the notorious waste-of-time Tinder App and my first Tinder date is still one of the most important people in my life today. A stroll down La Barceloneta Beach to soak up the Spanish sun quickly rejuventated my spirit and I remember frequently asking myself if I was really here. Everything seemed so surreal in this paradise city. Looking back on my posts Ballin’ in Barcelona and Bouji’s, Bling Bling & a Bag Snatch, all I did for two weeks was eat really good food and drink for free but it was the first time in a long time I allowed myself to let go. Then I went back for a girls weekend in May, which was a little more tamed but equally as adventurous.

We get so used to a commitment, a routine, a standard, a schedule, a job or group of people but when we remove all that from our lives, what are we left with? Freaky thoughts, silence and messages from the sky. We can have a house but not a home. We may have a relationship but no real connection. We may have a job we despise or a dream we fear conquering. Part of self mastery is creating a system that works for you even if it means letting go of everything and starting over.

Every moment is a message, how well are you listening?

Barcelona was a message to keep carrying on because beauty and sunshine can co-exist,

I just never found it where I was.

What a beautiful post. It makes me want to go back to Barcelona and experience it again so I can see it how you do. I got my passport and wallet jacked when I went (I know – how f-ing stereotypical) – which mostly sucked because I REALLY wanted to love the city. I think you’ve inspired me to try again.

Great post! And it makes me consider myself really lucky living only an hour away from it. Barcelona is beautiful.

What do you think?
