There’s a restaurant in Zagreb I’ve never really mentioned anywhere, despite already dining there about 5 times over the past year. Basta Gourmet Bar is located in the centre of Zagreb, seconds away from Cvjetni Trg (Flower Square) and is by far, the best pizza in town.
We decided to make this the destination for one of my best friend’s birthdays, purely because we know that the quality of food wouldn’t let us down, unlike our visit to Barbieri’s over the weekend, the biggest waste of time and money to date.
I ordered the truffle pizza, of course I did (pictured above) and I must say that I wasn’t too eager to share my pizza with anyone else. The pizza base used at Basta simply melts in your mouth. My fiancé mentioned that he has no problems eating his crust at Basta (usually he doesn’t) because it’s so soft and not heavy in the stomach.
Ines ordered the ‘Buffala Biancha‘ pizza, cheese and cherry tomato pizza.
Luka ordered the ‘Gambrel Verde,’ packed with baby prawns, capers, ricotta and heaps of garlic. Not my kind of pizza as I don’t like seafood on my pizza despite loving ham & pineapple pizza (go figure) but he seemed to enjoy it.
The service at Basta is also worth mentioning. There’s no ego, half the time I don’t even feel like I’m sitting in a restaurant in Zagreb, it reminds me a little of Barcelona. Staff are friendly, service is quick and no-fuss and it’s also a hot spot for tourists.
A special Happy Birthday to my good friend, Ines.
A picture tells a thousand stories, as you can see, she loved her special birthday cake.
& Thank you to the lovely staff at Basta, Zagreb.
