Located in the heart of Chelsea’s cosmopolitan district, Polpo sits as one of the busiest restaurants in the area. Describing itself as, “a humble restaurant serving simple food and good, young local wines,” Polpo lived up to some reputation as my girl friend as I struggled to find a table and were seated at the bar instead. Just incase you think I’m over exaggerating, Polpo has received the Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand for the last six consecutive years. Not bad for a humble restaurant, right? Polpo kind of has the Daphnes vibe but not as noisy and a lot more inviting.
As we were seated at the bar, a location I don’t mind but I know would infuriate my mother, a lovely bar tender greeted us and informed us of the daily specials. I wasn’t really paying attention as I was fiddling with my camera but I did hear the alcohol special which was a spritz. My girl friend and I decided to live and little, celebrating the fact that it’s Sunday and enjoy a spritz each.
We started with beef and pork meatballs, covered in a polenta crust and a parmesan cheese pizza with rocket on top. I naturally asked for truffle to be added to this pizza. Although, there were many options with truffle already on the menu.
Next came the roasted rosemary potatoes that were cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths, followed by the zucchini, parmesan and basil salad that was also an impressive choice by my girlfriend. It was light, tasty and complimented the rest of the dishes nicely. I must say the chilli and garlic prawns were not the best and a little small for £7 a plate. Never mind, the milan style chicken was the standout dish.
