Nestled quietly between a convenient store and it’s own signature cafe, Hotel Waldinger can easily be missed while strolling down Županijska Street in Osijek. Located in the heart of Croatia’s fourth largest city, Hotel Waldinger is also one of the only hotels in the city with four stars.
There are currently no hotels in Osijek with five. This boutique style hotel is situated in a century-old Art Nouveau building with glimpses of Austro-Hungarian architectural influences throughout it’s lobby and hallways, boasting an unexpected modern and contemporary vibe in each of it’s rooms. The hotel has 15 double rooms and one single room, ideal for the solo traveller not requiring much space. Since opening it’s doors in 2004, Hotel Waldinger has been a popular place to stay for many travellers from international to neighbouring countries.
Osijek At Your Doorstep
Like most travellers, when deciding on a hotel, I always tend to look into it’s close proximity to local cultural attractions. I enjoy the luxury of being able to leave my hotel and be in walking distance to touristic locations and also to save money on taxi fares. I am not the biggest fan of public transportation and will try to avoid it as much as possible, particularly in the summer time.
What I loved most about Hotel Waldinger was it’s location which was uniform to my personal travel ethos. The moment you step out of this beautifully kept boutique hotel, you were within walking distance to all that Osijek offers. Osijek’s famous neo-gothic Co-Cathedral is less than a 2 minute walk, the city centre is just moments away from the Co-Cathedral and the famous Drava River is less than five minutes away by foot.
Spacious, Yet Cosy Rooms
Perhaps I have been spoilt in the past with luxury hotels but one factor I notice almost as instantly as great customer service is the space inside a room or a suite. I love to be able to twirl around and walk from mirror to mirror, dissecting my own outfit before I leave a room. Hotel Waldinger in Osijek absolutely nails my need for space, mirrors and also office-away-from-office. Our double room was spacious, yet still cosy and intimate enough to make us feel right at home. The double bed was very comfortable, pillows firm and crispy fresh linen left my cousin and I not wanting get up for breakfast in the morning. Dental kits are also available upon request.
A very modern and well thought out bathroom was also at our disposal with a large vanity top with combined bath/spa and shower. A phone located on the wall also had my little cousin asking why there was a telephone in the bathroom. The water pressure was exceptional and above Croatian (and London) standards.
The Customer Service
In Croatia, customer service can be a little crass at times if you don’t speak the local language, don’t let this interfere with your experience. Fortunately at Hotel Waldinger this is not an issue and staff are friendly, professional and eager to tend to your needs. They’ll start conversations and ask you where you’re from, how your day has been and just the general attention to detail to make you feel welcome. All staff are proficient at speaking english so communicating is not a problem at all.
My cousin and I stayed on the first floor in room 102 which overlooked the street and over the rooftops of Osijek City. While we were situated beside the busy street, the sound of cars was faint and not a problem bring to light. The there are two glass windows to prevent any noise from interfering with your stay. All rooms have air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, a hair dryer, safe and flat screen TV. There is also a min-bar, full length mirror and generous wardrobe space. Other hotel amenities that may be important to you include gym and sauna. Free parking is also available on-site.
“A quiet hotel, loyal to it’s historical charm and character located in the heart of Osijek, Croatia”
I found Hotel Waldinger to offer a very personable and finesse style of customer service, one tailored to each of their customer’s requirements as no two are identical. If you’re looking for a quiet hotel, loyal to it’s historical charm and character, I highly recommend Hotel Waldinger for your next stay in Osijek.
A romantic weekend away or place to stay for your next business trip.
Hotel Waldinger hosts one of the city’s finest restaurants, however I wasn’t able to eat here as the restaurant is closed during a certain period of time in summer. I recommend two places close by, American Bar Dollar and Lumiere.
Rooms start from £50 and are subject to availability. Breakfast is included with each booking.
