A touch of New York has arrived in downtown Sydney. Located on the cusp of Chinatown, Basement 33 is serving up delectable cocktails and delicious wood-fired pizza in a modern and dynamic setting.
The décor is sophisticated and edgy with sleek black walls wrapped in classic movie posters, intimate booths and round wooden tables. The bar staff and waiters are impeccably dressed with bow ties to boot (for the men, of course), adding a touch of old world glamour to your table service.
The cocktail menu is killer; a true connoisseur’s delight. For those who prefer a beverage that packs a punch, we recommend tasting the ‘Vanilla Sky’. A mix of vodka, Cointreau and vanilla, it’s a drink perfectly suited to those, oh you know, vivacious types (like me, Adriana and we’re guessing, if you read this blog, yourself!).
The food offering is equally impressive with mouth-watering pizzas and generously sized share plates. That said, which dish do we rate as being the most delectable of them all? For savoury, it’s a tie between the Capri-Chose-Her Pizza (fresh tomato, bocconcini, double smoked ham, mushrooms, black olives and artichokes) and very cheesy meatballs (stuffed with mozzarella and cooked in Napoli sauce).
If we were forced to choose a dessert, the Nutella pizza with strawberries is the victor, but only just – the smashed waffles topped with strawberries, vanilla ice cream, Oreo biscuits, whipped cream and Mars Bar chocolates is like a carnival for your taste buds!
Also worthy of a mention is the venue’s offering of audio visual facilities and reserved areas for those looking to host a fancy soirée.
An ideal spot for a nonchalant dinner date, casual catch-up with friends or celebratory drinks, Basement 33 is a ‘must visit’ on your bar and restaurant bucket list. No excuses.
Our verdict: Bellissimo!
Visit: 33 Goulburn Street, Sydney.
